I want to talk about People!

My journey through cancer lead me to some amazing people! People I would have never met otherwise. People who came into my life and stayed and others who came in and left when it was time, as their work was done.
Our whole lives are about people….everyday. Those we love and talk with, live with, visit and help each day. Other people that we work with, deal with and move through our day with. And even more people, at the market, at the coffee shop, those we say hi to and chat with…. it is endless. I heard in a movie once a statement that just stuck with me: “if we are alone, then we are all in that together too”. So true! When we go through cancer or any other situations in our lives we always feel alone and at times it seems we are the only ones. But we truly are not. Cancer for example; you see, hear, talk with, sit next to, cry and laugh with people going through the same thing daily. And if you are feeling alone, as often comes with the territory, then we are all in that together as I am sure it is on everyone’s mind at some time.
If you really sit and think about it, it is amazing. Maybe today you are tired and you said, I just want to be alone. Were you? Or did someone you love call to say hi, or the people you told were they with you? It’s hard to be alone when you really think about it, especially in California. It could be a beautiful day, but maybe a work day and you happen to be off, you decide to go to the beach, there is no one for miles and miles and then the one person who shows up…sits right next to you! But maybe that is good it is a reminder that we never are truly alone.
So today I was thinking about all this as I was working on the Traveling Book. And the reason for my thoughts are, that people amaze me. Not only with the Traveling Book, but I have had tremendous help by others who want to see me do good, who have read the book and really want it to help others, and those who are simply my cheerleaders! I have had wonderful people who I do not know, or are acquaintances that just come forward and want to help. Is it so inspiring! And now with the Traveling Book, it has been making its way around the world; California, Texas, Egypt, England, it is back and will be on its way to France, Italy, Canada and Spain. It is truly amazing and makes me want to cry when I see women and men from all over the world who sign in support. Just plan support for each other and this un-wanted journey. But it goes one step further, I have gotten the book back three times now, and each time something is added to its bag. For example, I have placed bookmarks, mirrors and buttons in there with a little note to take one as you pass it on. But with its return it has had some beautiful items placed in the bag. A postcard with information for spas after surgery to help those in the UK. Bookmarks made by the children at the Big Pink Heart RESPECT Day in the UK. And wonderful date books and words of inspiration from its last visit along with some very jazzy pink nail files. I mean how cool is that? This is not something that I asked for or asked people to do, they just did it to share with others. Again…People…are truly amazing!!
So in my journey to send the book around the world and my point in this blog regarding feeling alone; is this is the reason I have done this, so others do not feel alone, or that they are in this by themselves. We are all here to support each other, to understand, to help out and to move forward. And if one small book can lift someones spirits for the day…I have fulfilled my life. I always have thought that if the book help just one person, I would be truly happy. And I am!! Very truly happy!!
So here is the truly amazing part. And I have used “amazing” quite a bit in the blog today, but it just fits and brings true to life how I feel. So in my quest to help others and make them feel alive, and not alone…today I got a surprise. When I picked up the Traveling Book from the Post Office, not only were these cool other items in the bag, but one small wrapped gift that simply stated for “Regina”. So you see if I had any thoughts of being alone today my heart was filled with the thought that I was not. A simple, small gesture by another person made my day!! We can all do this everyday… think of others.
And here is my final note, in the small wrapped gift was a simple little brown frame and in the center of the frame simply stated was:
“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year”!!
How true!
